About Garner
Garner is a small community of roughly 3000 people located in North Central Iowa. It is located only 13 miles from Interstate 35. The community prides itself on an outstanding quality of life with the school system, safe & clean neighborhoods, recreational opportunities, parks, employment opportunities and history.
Some of the more popular amenities include our zero depth entry Aquatic Center, public nine hole Golf Course , Avery Theatre, Veterans Memorial Recreation Center, Garner Public Library and the Garner Education Center which houses the NIACC Community Education Coordinator and the ISU Extension for Hancock County. The Historic Red Elevator in Garner is a landmark Farmer’s Coop which has been beautifully restored to host events.
Garner is proud to be home to the complete K-12 school system of Garner-Hayfield Community School District. Garner-Hayfield is a school system of 950 students that offers outstanding educational opportunities to all its students, as well as generous college scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors.

In terms of residential development, Garner is a prime location with great access to Mason City, Clear Lake and Forest City, Garner has seen a boom in new home construction, with more than 142 new homes built since 1998 with building lots still available in the Cobblestones and the Hejlik subdivisions.
Garner is known for its industrial development with companies like Iowa Mold Tooling, Stellar Industries, Plas-Tech Tooling, and Zinpro.
Every small town in Iowa has a local event they have to build community. In Garner it is Duesey Days and is always held the 2nd week in July where they host a talent contest, live music, as well as a 10K run/walk, complete with food vendors, fireworks, and more.
The Hancock County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. It was designed by F. W. Kinney and built on the same site it sits on today in 1899. It features stained glass windows and a fountain in the courtyard.
