The 700 plus residents of Ventura consider their home to be a sportsman’s Paradise! It is a destination for anyone who enjoys small community life and the outdoors. You can explore fishing, hunting, boating, biking and even snowmobiling.

There are four public parks and two with public boat ramps available within the City of Ventura that are enjoyed by visitors and residents. Among the best known are the Harbor Inn Park, located on South Main Street, where you will always see people fishing, and the Lynn Lorenzen Park, located on East Lake Street which offers a public boat ramp, plenty of paved parking and a basketball court. In the winter, you are sure to see the youth of the community sledding down the hill. McIntosh Woods State Park is located on East Lake Street and features a boat ramp, beach, trails, cabin rentals (yurts), and camping.

Ventura, Iowa is part of the Garner-Hayfield School district and together they are proud to call GHV home. Together these smaller communities share resources and provide quality education for 950 students K-12. The high school and elementary students attend school in Garner, while the intermediate and junior high students receive their education in Ventura, Iowa.

The Ventura Dredging project as part of the larger $13 million Lake Restoration Plan has had a tremendous impact on the clarity of the lake water and fishing opportunities. Ventura, known as the Little Lake has depths of 20’ and has seen increased recreational boating.

Any trip to Ventura, Iowa should include a stop at The Muskie for dinner and The Viking for dessert. You can arrive to the Muskie by car or boat. They are known for their Corn Nugget appetizer, their large hamburgers, and an “all you can eat” fish special on Fridays. The Viking is busy seven days a week during the summer months and they are known for their giant soft serve ice cream servings – a local favorite flavor is black cherry.
